CA Proposition 65

Apr 8, 2016 | News Feed

As you may know, the State of California’s Proposition 65 requires labeling certain products to alert consumers to the presence of harmful chemicals. Recently, California updated the list of chemicals to include Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical found in polycarbonate materials, which in turn prompted the Vision Council to make recommendations which may be reviewed HERE.
While each lab must determine what actions are appropriate to comply with the requirements of Proposition 65, DVI has added support for the following options:

  1. Print a customizable invoice message on all polycarbonate jobs regardless of destination by using a global setting.
  2. Print a customizable invoice message on all polycarbonate jobs being sent to a California address by using a global setting.
  3. Print a customizable label at shipping (any size/shape) for all polycarbonate jobs regardless of destination by using a global setting.
  4. Print a customizable label at shipping (any size/shape) for all polycarbonate jobs being sent to a California address by using a global setting.
  5. Print a customizable label at shipping (any size/shape) for all jobs regardless of lens material being sent to a California address by using a global setting.
  6. Use a service code to print a customizable invoice message regardless of lens material type and destination. This service code is intended to be attached to account records, frame records, or individual jobs. There is also the option to use a service code to disable printing.
  7. Use a formula to print a message on the customized invoice or work ticket that keys off of ship state.

The wording of the label may either be the warning itself, or prompt an operator to include a warning card with the job.
Polycarbonate lenses do not include 1.530 index for the purpose of this warning.
Enforcement of the requirement to warn by the State of California will commence on or after May 11, 2016.
Information on setting up the option of your choice is available HERE.
